EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Afghanistan is still in the grip of a multiple human, security, social, economic, health and educational crisis, with millions of Afghans in need of immediate humanitarian assistance as well as capacity building to find sustainable solution to their issues.
Afghanistan is a country that has faced more than four decades of war. During this trying period, the Afghans have greatly suffered, witnessing mass murders, violence, forced migrations etc. One of the main consequences of these events has been disability of a large number of Afghans including children, women and men who have lost their limbs during the wars, by landmines and ERW. While hundreds of thousands of Afghans were disabled by war and landmines, many more have acquired impairments from birth, inadequate healthcare, congenital disabilities, accidents or malnutrition and preventable diseases such as polio. Large numbers of people who were psychologically traumatized receive minimal services, if any. In addition, there are many people with learning disabilities, mental impairments and multiple disabilities that are yet to receive adequate attention from the international community, the Government of Afghanistan and disability Organizations working in the country.
Country’s political; security and economic transitions are threatening to reverse hard- won gains in basic development. It is critical that the Government of Afghanistan and its international partners including donors, UN agencies, and NGOs, CSOs—commit to protecting and improving the lives of all Afghans through provision of facilities and environment to enable everyone to feels him/herself a responsible member of the society for challenging such issues and replace them with logical and sustainable solutions.
